Welcome to my blog. After several false starts, I have finally setup a place where I can record my thoughts, ideas, and interests.

This web site is a personal journal and notebook of my eclectic interests. Expect to see a wide array of topics. As an engineer, I will probably write a lot about computers, math, science, and economics. While I may not have much expertise with subjects like law, religion, politics, and music, I do find them interesting (and even if not well grounded, opinions and theories) and will post about them as well.

I am intentionally not providing much demographic information about myself; although I am sure that some details will slip out. This is not because I want to be anonymous, but rather I feel that listing my gender, orientation, race, religion, or other “label” will lead the reader to view this site through those lenses. However, some context is appropriate. I live in the northern U.S., am married, and have adult children (and since I will mention life in the 80s – it is fair to assume I am part of Gen X).

By the way, the name of this site comes from the 1985 song by Joe Walsh (which I owned on cassette).

If you look at your reflection at the bottom of the well
What you see is only on the surface
When you try to see the meaning, hidden underneath
The measure of the depth can be deceiving
The bottom has a rocky reputation

You can feel it in the distance the deeper down you stare
From up above it’s hard to see, but you know when you’re there
On the bottom words are shallow, the surface talk is cheap
You can only judge the distance by the company you keep
In the eyes of the confessor

In the eyes of the confessor
There’s no place you can hide
You can’t hide from the eyes (of the confessor)
Don’t you even try
In the eyes of the confessor
You can’t tell a lie
You cannot tell a lie (to the confessor)
Strip you down to size
Naked as the day that you were born
Naked as the day that you were born

Take all the trauma, drama, comments
The guilt and doubt and shame
The what if’s and if only’s
The shackles and the chains
The violence and aggression
The pettiness and scorn
The jealousy and hatred
The tempest and discord
And give it up

Songwriter: Joe Walsh

As a side note, I have always liked the cover art for the album which features German artist Caspar David Friedrich’s painting Zwei Männer in Betrachtung des Mondes (Two Men Contemplating the Moon), with a close up of Joe Walsh superimposed over the moon. I think it would look awesome on the hood of a jeep.
